Failing MSE

Microsoft Has Stopped Trying.  Recommends you use another antivirus.

"Microsoft Security Essentials (Windows Defender on Windows 8 ) was
once on top. Over the years, it’s slid in the test results, but Microsoft
argued the tests weren’t meaningful. Now, Microsoft is advising Windows
users to use a third-party antivirus instead."

I'm still using MSE only, never did like any other very much.
Most that weren't intrusive didn't do much of anything.
I'll keep an eye out for what's working best.

Well, that sucks. I like MSE because I don't even know it's there! I just happened to check it a few days ago to see if was still doing anything and it had just run a scan a couple of days earlier. Let me know if you find something else you like.

That's how almost everyone feels.  It seems to still be working
fine and nobody's in a hurry to add another.  I've run a series
of tests with some of the portable security apps that don't run
all the time and haven't found anything MSE missed so far.

Running Spybot portable right now with about 14 minutes to
go and then I'm going to pronounce it clean.  I will let you
know if I add another.
