Why the hell can't I keep my mouth shut, I got into a terrible mess
with them last week.
Jo called me early last week and said nothing was coming up on her
screen and could I tell if it was the monitor or the computer and I said
yes. Now that conversation took about 15 minutes. I went over and
nothing on the screen just like she said. I heard the computer boot up
and it sounded fine but still nothing on the screen. I said let me take
the monitor over to the house and hook it up to one of my machines
and see if it works. I got Rick to come with me and brought it over and
took my monitor loose and booted up and it ran fine. Unhooked it and
took it back and plugged it into a different hole on the power strip and
still nothing. Rick noticed there was no light on the monitor or maybe
already knew and just mentioned it. I said let's plug it in somewhere
else and see if it works so they kind of guided me over to another
outlet back in a hole and Jo said "Let me see." and got in the tight
space in the way. After a couple of minutes with her down in there
motionless, I said Rick, let's plug it in somewhere else, do you have
a place in the kitchen we can get to to plug it in. He said "I'll get it
and got down and told Jo to get out of the way and unplugged
something and plugged in the monitor and they saw the little led light.
I said ok, it's the power strip and he went somewhere and came back
with another and got behind the bookcase there somehow and plugged
it in. Jo's squalling at him "Where's you get that? What have you
unplugged now?" and he said not a thing. He plugged the monitor
into the new strip and they said the led light came on. It was
probably a 14" monitor but looked smaller than Helen's little digital
picture frame that's 11 inches. She was back in control at the
computer and finally booted it back up. The XP screen came up and I
said "Fixed!", I'll see you later".
I forget how it got started but Rick was over here for something and
I showed him how to do something on the computer. He happened
to mention that Jo's computer was still not working and she swore it
wasn't the power strip. He said he guessed she'd have to get a new
one. He said it was down at the (?) computer shop and they said it
needed a new motherboard and wanted $300 for that.
Like a fool I said "I"ve got one of the last XP machines over here
and it's just about 4 months old. I guess I'd sell her that one if she
wants an XP machine" and I patted the top of it. He said for $300?
and I said yes. He goes home and Jo calls and asks if I have a
computer for sale and I said yeah, I've got one I'd let you have with
XP or two with Vista. She said what are you asking and I said $300
for the one with XP and $350 for either of the Vista machines. She
said they wanted $50 to tranfer her files over to a new machine, what
would I charge and I said nothing. She said ok, I'll take it. I said it
would take awhile that I had my stuff on it and had it set up with XP
and Vista, and you got to choose which one when it booted up. She
didn't want that but said she'd take it. I said ok and started setting
it up. So I started to work on it and deleted most of my stuff and
took off Vista and saved a few things.
To be continued.
Chapter 2, I'm having a little trouble changing it over and Jo keeps
calling wanting it right now.
