definition of URL

I was trying to fill out a survey and it asked for my URL. I tried everything I could think of but nothing works. Out of curiosity
what the hell did they want? I've never been asked for that before.

I knew it was the web address and use the term but didn't know what it stood for so I
googled it:

Ok, you've got a URL now. I didn't do anything with it yet but put up a plain placeholder
page but it's there and I'll put anything you want on it. Maybe that picture of the
covered bridge? Your URL is:

I also created:

http://rock.thumpnet.com/

All just have placeholders for now. You can also use:
http://www.jean.thumpnet.com/
if you want to have a www in it.

I guess it doesn't work unless it's your computer? Mine shows up fine but Granny's and Ma's doesn't?

Don't know what your problem is Rock, maybe some setting. They all work fine.
I put the picture of the covered bridge on Mom's today just to have something on it
for now.
Maybe try the second one for Mom with the www. added in. Works fine for me both
ways.

Copied that right out of my address bar while I was viewing the page.
They're subdomains but that doesn't matter at all.
Maybe the way the forum sets the links?

Pretty odd..Granny's www one works for me now but none of the others work including mine that worked last night.

Mine worked fine, I went straight to it from this entry by Tommy. I"ll try it by typing it in later. Pretty picture of Covered bridge. What do you do with it? What is it for?

Now that's a good question.
Some people just put one up as a sort of profile. Most people don't really do anything with
them, they just have them so they can say they have them.

You can use if for advertising or selling goods or services like the one I put up for Curly.

Or you can just put stuff you like. I do that about things that interest or amuse me and
might others as well. My most widely viewed was one I did about magic jack and I really
did get a lot of people visiting that one and several people tracked me down and e-mailed
me to try and find out more. Sort of a public service.

I'll put anything on it you'd like me to, just let me know.
