I had been testing a couple, AdAware and Spybot
without meaning to. I got infected and tried to get it off.
Today I noticed an article in Extreme Tech where
they tested nine of them to see which was the best.

Nine Ways to Wipe Out Spyware

We've rounded up the best (and worst) of the apps dedicated to finding and killing spyware.

And the winner is:
Spyware Doctor with AntiVirus 5.5

Spyware Doctor is our go-to app when it comes to
wiping your system clean of malicious software.
Treating your malware infestation with Spyware
Doctor can take time and effort, but the end result is
a near-total recovery for your PC.

I don't know if I've gotten rid of everything yet but
all that my apps showed. It's still haunted so I don't
know if malware even has anything to do with the
trouble I was having.

I'd been running Adaware for a while but since
Spybot was recommended here I added it and had
been using it exclusively for a while. I ran a test
yesterday and got a bunch detected and told Spybot
to "Fix" them. It got them all but three BlastMedia
ones. I checked them and told it to fix them, it looked
like it started but nothing happened, four times.
I ran Adaware and it found three, I told it to remove
them and after it tried it said three hadn't been
removed but would be when I restarted. I restarted,
ran Spybot and there they were.

I checked around and found you're supposed to close
the browsers so I did and Spybot said it had Fixed
them. I ran Adaware and there they still were. Ran
Spybot and yes, there they were. I told Adaware to
remove them with the browsers still closed and it
said it did. I ran Spybot again and it came up clean.
Adaware fixed it with the browsers closed and
Spybot couldn't. I don't thing either the new AdAware
or the Spybot are very good and Extreme Tech didn't either.

Yeah, I use that AdAware about every 3 months or so. I should run it more often I know.
It seems to only find "negligible" stuff and gets rid of em pretty easily.

I go where others fear to tread and pick up a lot of stuff so I run mine
every few days or whenever I'm experiencing bad performance.
It's a lot how much you use it to and I use mine a lot.

I'm still having a little bit of slowness and may see if Spyware Doctor with AntiVirus 5.5 has a free trial. It'd be a pain to turn eveything else off to try it though.
