Against Universal Health Care

When it came up I just sort of got a warm fuzzy feeling and thought it would be nice
if everyone had health care. It would be nice if we lived in a perfect world but we
do not. The government can give nothing without taking something away.

I started rethinking it after Rock said he was in favor of it. Something wrong, he
considers himself a Republican, why's he in favor of taxpayers picking up the cost
fo health care for those who don't work and pay taxes? Well, we're already doing
it and doing it unfairly so it looks like a good idea to try and fix it. Fix it by
stopping it. He'll be back tomorrow and I want to see if this gets him back on his
normal thinking of "Why shoud I...". He also seems to have been overcome with the
warm and fuzzy feeling.
It was also a jar when I heard the plan would force everyone to buy insurance.

I really regret it ate your dissertation, I'm sure I would have enjoyed reading it.
I'm seldom 100% correct on anything I say more than yes or no but I think I
nailed a few things right on the head.

Not sure I ever advocated Universal Health Insurance or any other socialistic agenda. I thought the movie Sicko was intriguing but I am certainly against Obamacare. We'll get something rammed down our throats but I'm willing to bet a public plan won't be one of them. The discussions will switch to state run coops soon enough and I'll reevaluate.

One thing is certain though..We already have a "public plan". It has various names, Medicare, medicaid, or just showing up at the ER where you can't be turned away.

I don't think there's any doubt that the current system has to change or it will bankrupt the country. 16% of GDP already goes to heathcare with annual double digit inflationary growth.

I certainly don't have any answers but I think employer mandated insurance has some merit if tax credits are extended and it could be done in a way that it didn't kill jobs. I think we have to find a way to get more healthy young people contributing also.Indeed the odds are they won't utilize it enough to make up for the contributions but the odds are 99% that they will be around long enough to need it themselves one day.

Yes also to some sort of tort reform. Although it has little bearing on what we actually pay out every year, it has a huge cost considering the amount of defensive medicine that is practiced as a result.

The best thing the goverment could do tho help the cost of healthcare is to make it unlawful to eat at buffets if you weigh over a certain amount. Watch the fat people eat enough for 3 or more people. Obesity is the main problem of medical treatments.
Also the fatter the person is , the more fatty food and sweets they gorge on.
I eat at a buffet at least 4 times a week, so can't help but notice.

I agree 100% Granny..The poiliticans love to tax my tobacco and occasional beer/wine to death but heaven forbid they put a whammy on fat people..Yes to a twinkie tax!

I'd prefer it to taxing my tobacco. They'd need less money and could cut tax if they'd
stop some things that need stopping.

Not mentioning any names or places here's one example:

There's an over-the-counter medication for vaginal itching that costs $5.00
that most people who need it use. People on medicaid make an appointment
and show up and get a prescription and have it filled free and save $5.00.
The government pays the clinic $135.00.
The clinics of course do not discourage this.
See what happens when something's free.

Everyone would be better off if the government just gave the pharmacist $5.00
for each over-the-counter medication they dispensed properly without a
prescription. No insurance or other middlemen required.
That is not the "plan" or any of the "plans" under discussion.
