Well, I bought an emachine yesterday, hooked it up and don't like it at all. I'm taking it back today. I just got the tower, typewriter and mouse, but it was only $300.00. I didn't like it because the games were nothing I was interested in, and most all of them said " free trial". I also had a hard time trying to get on-line using my $9.99 AOL. So, this morning I switched back.
It may be because I am so familiar with this one.
Regardless of it being slow, it does do what I want it to do. I spend more time playing soltaire nd free cell than I do on line anyway. Outside of paying some bills andreading email and checking Tom's forum I'm not on there much; I just delete most of my email, if they aren't from the family or someone I want to talk to.

Yeah Mom, they all come screwed up from the factory and need a lot of work to run
their best and aggravate you the least. I guess you're still running that Hewlett
Packard Rock and I got you? It is very slow. Hewlett Packard is the worst of all
I think and it took me days to get it set up and running right. Emachines are easier
to fix that HP's machines.

Take it back if you can and I'll get you one and fix it before I send it up there.
It sounds like you could do everything you wanted with a cheap one emachines makes
that uses very little power, so little that you can just leave it on all the time if you like.
It's not very fast on some things but it'd be a lot faster than the one you have.
It should be fairly fast just doing the things you mentioned.

Let me know if you get them to take it back. If they won't I can help you fix it but
it'll take some downloads and a lot of time.

Oh yes, I took it back to Walmart, no problem.Walmart is real easy to exchange
things or get refunds.
Yes I'm still using the one you send me and I'm so tickled to get back on it.
The one you showed in your post sounds fine but think how much it would cost to send it
to me.
If you and Rocky would like to do it, just wait and do it for my Xmas/birthday presents.
Now ain't that a good idea?

Yeah, it costs a little to ship it but I've shipped them up there before and me
setting it up to work right is free and I do a much better job than the geek
squad at Best Buy who charge up to $100 to "fix" a new machine.

If you're not in a great hurry, I'd like to give it a little more thought. Vista
is better than XP but takes a more powerful computer. It works pretty good
after I've adjusted it to work much like XP. I don't know if Vista was your
main problem with the one you took back or not.

I'd forgotten that I made a small page for the machine I was talking about a
couple of weeks ago and titleed it Last of the XP Machine?

Helen wondered if you like one of the netbooks. The machine we're talking
about is basically a netbook in a regular computer case but it has a DVD and
the netbooks don't. Walmart did have one of the little netbooks for $238 but it
only had 512 mbs of ram. The one you have now only has 256 mbs of ram I
believe and son it's still twice as fast at some things.

She wasn't being silly, it can hook up to a regular monitor and mouse and keyboard
and work just like any other computer and she knows that's how I've been using
and working on hers. She's used it several times set up that way herself.

Oh, Rock said he was in for it last night on the phone.

Tommy, I don't know enough about computers to give an answer. I don't think I have ever set one up by myself, so that may have been the problem. You have always had them ready to go when I got them.
Like I saod, I don't use it for anything complicated.
Just use your judgement, it's a heck of a lot better than mine.
I hope Helen will be satisfied with her new job and I know that it's going to be benificial to her when she retires. Tell her "hello!".

I haven't done alot of research on the netbook but that may work well for Granny. Either way, I'm in and we'll get you fixed up Granny!

I ordered the computer with XP yesterday afternoon. I'm sure Mom could use Vista after
I set it up for her but why bother learning. Windows 7 is much better and comes out in
a couple of months so no need to suffer through Vista at all. It would make learning
Windows 7 easier but it's still not quite the same.

I expect it'll be fine for Mom but if I think it's not after I get it then I'll just keep it
and hunt another. It would work fine for the magic jack, it hardly uses any electricity
at all so I could just leave it on all the time. So, no problem if it's not suitable.
The cheaper netbook wasn't as good and one as good cost a lot more.

Thump, not sure I followed you.. You planning on loading Win 7 on the new XP box when it is released or just leave it with XP? I assume you will leave it as XP but wasn't sure. Just email me to let me know what my half is.

No, I'm leaving XP on there so Mom won't have to relearn how to use the machine.
Just saying, if anyone hasn't moved to Vista, don't do it now.

There is no reason for anyone learning to use Vista now, why bother with something
better soon to be available.
