Avast is the new number one recommendation, Avira still has the best detection but
a new installer that adds an Ask toobar and it has an advitiser now that has been
accused of being scareware. (appears to check your computer and reports bad
things wrong, click now to pay us to fix it right now) The Ask toolbar is pretty easy
to remove if you know how and I'd never fall for the scareware but you really don't
want to recommend Avira now, someone else could not know.
The young people like Avast, it has a rounded corner console and skins to change
the appearance. I found it difficult to set up and set your preferences and did a
double take every time I opened it. So, I still don't recommend it.
Microsoft Security Essentials is still in second place and is a breeze to use, it's still
my number one recommendation. If I was running a pirated version of Windows I guess
I'd still use Avira but still wouldn't recommend it to newbies.
