So far. Gold's up almost 3%. Bond yields are up over 4 percent meaning bonds
went down but maybe not that much, don't know how it corresponds exactly and
still don't know where to find bond prices. Juat have to check bond fund prices
after the close I guess to get an idea. ACI, my coal company is up over 5% but
I'm still badly in the hole there.

Yep, great week! Pulled out quite a bit before market close yetserday and now holding a good deal of cash. Watched our 401ks go from YTD 7% in April to 2% return a month later and will sit on the sidelines this time for the inevitable pullback.

Well, that's not right son. It's long term investing that gets you the
best return. If what you bought Wednesday was a good investment, it's still
a good investment now. You don't make more money by "stop and go"
investing than you do driving stop and go instead of steady.

On the best side of that I did advise you to average in over a longer period of
time and you haven't lost anything (except opportunity), probably made a little
but three days in the market won't mean anything in 20 years or so when you
retire. This is long term investment, not those penny stocks people gamble
with that really aren't worth anything anyway.

Hope you didn't sell PG or M, they haven't reached their potential price at all, it'll
probably take a year. PG is the type of stock you want to keep, you don't want
to trade unless you think it's priced way too high at the time. You need more
like that to put your investments on auto pilot, let the shares make the money
for you. That works when trading fails if you have good companies.

The only quick in and out I've had in two or three years was Avon (AVP) and
you know why. It reached my yearly target in one day when the bid for it came.
I was going to sell then even if they'd taken it, can't believe it went higher than
the bid.

You are right of course in general. I never get out fully but went to 40% cash for a couple of weeks. Can't make myself watch a 4% increase in the markets over 5 days without taking profits. I did get back in yesterday although I still have 10% in cash. Probably a little early for reentry but I did avoid about a 2% decline in the major indices over the last 2 weeks.

Made good money on SMG but haven't gotten back in on that one yet. Still holding M and PG and held those since I bought them.

It's good you came out on the deal, it did break 1350, never was any
strength there, it just breezes through whether going up or down.
Good jump on PG today but not really worried about M, should go
up more than the market on the way up.

I usually check Honey's on Yahoo every day and PG is one of the
stocks I look at and don't care whether it's up or down and just
ignore it, one of our keepers but I check every once in a while and
noticed it down. XOM, Chevron, up or down, I don't care and
several more. I don't think Macy's is a keeper so unless Honey insists
I'll probably sell it when it reaches my target. We've got enough risk
besides the keepers that we should get a little higher return when the market's
up.

The market on average goes up two days for every day it goes down,
not a good bet to jump in and out, you wind up losing sometime.
Glad you made it through this one.
