Installed Windows 8 Empty
PostSubject: Installed Windows 8   Installed Windows 8 Icon_minitimeWed Feb 29, 2012 3:47 pm

I installed Windows 8 Consumer Preview on the main Dell, on the first primary OS
partition where the Dell OEM install was before I installed over it. Writing this from
the main install of Ultimate like we both installed.

Wed Feb 29, 2012 10:59 am Post subject: Win 8 CP Download Now

March 2, 2012

I'm downloading my copy now from:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/download

It did a compatibility check first thent gave me the Product Key, then
started the download.

Installed Windows 8 Win8down11

Crap! That's what I wanted, - The ISO download Link.

Finally got it installed as an upgrade. The few things I tried on Metro didn't
work, said because of the resolution I had it set on. Going to take a nap
now.

Really wasn't completely ready, I think I'll get an image of what I already
have first.

I decided it's really Windows 7 without a Start button. This was an
upgrade install and everything works that was on 7. I recommend this
method, it's a lot easier to set up Windows 7 the way you want it and then
upgrade than it was trying to set Windows 8 up the way I wanted.

It left (or put back) all my files, installed programs, even my desktop
wallpaper which was left over from Christmas so I changed it now. The dev
start button sucked anyway but they could have just put "Kick my butt
into metro" as an option on it. I couldn't get back to the metro most of
the time to show it. Found some shortcut keys, looks like the Window key
is what I want but haven't tried it yet. Page with new Win 8 shortcut keys

Just like 7 screenshot

I just copied over the games from XP, Solitaire, Pinball, etc. and they work.
Didn't on the Dev 8 I tried them on but work perfectly on 8 CP. I don't use
them but thought I'd test. Didn't like the new metro versions. I think I'll
try the games on 7 later after I get a copy, don't have a copy here.

Installed a cracked Office Professional Plus, went fine, didn't ask me for
anything. Asked if I wanted to go online with it but then said I needed a
reboot first. Saved the link to set it up with the Live version. I hate to
spoil this identity though if it catches it.

I was 1280x752 and none of the tile programs would work, switched
to 1920x to test. Didn't like anything there except I was looking for the
new Skydrive app, saw it, installed it, nothing happened, no sign of it,
rebooted, still nothing. Supposed to let you have Skydrive just as a drive
for drag and drop. Apps suck. Tried to put the res back but 1280x752
was no longer an option, the new size was smaller, 10 something.

You don't realize how much you use something until it's gone, click and
type I miss. I made a folder for start menu on the desktop using %root
or something so it works everywhere, already had a copy on the underlying
Win 7. I don't really care about the metro being there, just would rather
also have the Start button and menu. Somebody will make us something
to do that I'm sure.

No start button, no right click menu on metro. Sort of like an automobile
without a steering wheel, have to get out and kick the front tires in the
direction you want to go. Other than that, Win 7 is running fine except for
no start button after you get out of metro.

I'm getting critical about metro, really sucks. I'm new to the "store" thing
'cause I never did learn to use a tablet maybe. Finally tried the "Portfolio"
app, didn't work. Screenshot

The apps on metro are working at 1024x768 but
"Your resolution is lower than 1280x960, some items might not fit on your screen."

I have to keep in mind "Nobody ever went broke by underestimation the
intelligence of the human race" or I'd sell MSFT in my wife's IRA. Mouse
wheel scrolls sideways in metro. metro should be just a free add on for
those who want it since they're trying to make money from the store.

The desktop is workable, it's just like Windows 7 except no Start Orb.
A limited number of things are available from the corners of the screen.

Two keyboard commands you should memorize before you try and use
it are, to go to the metro from the desktop press the Windows key.
To go to the desktop from metro, hold down the Windows key and
press the D key.

Pretty easy for you to run mine from your machine if you wanted to,
download Teamviewer and type in my nine digit number (sort of like
a phone number) and then when asked type in my password (you'd
have to get the pass fresh each time 'cause it changes everytime
you open the program). Probablly take about 10 minutes to dothe
install and have it up and running.

I told Curly he ought to run it from his house on his touch screen
All-In-One Dell but he's a little dim. Wouldn't know what to do
besides open the browser. I'd have to be with him to show him, you
could do it fine over the phone. Get the number and pass from me
and type it in.
